INENA improves 9-1-1 through research, standards development, training, education, outreach, and advocacy.

“As we continue to lead the transition to #NG911 technologies, it's imperative that we elevate 9-1-1 professionals’ knowledge of #cybersecurity issues,” said NENA Past President Gary Bell. Our latest partnership with @CISecurity will do just that (and more)!”

9-1-1 Goes to Washington Recap:

Thanks to the IL attendees: John Kelly, Amy Marion, Anthony Marzano, Brad Crow, Tonya Beasley, Brooks Shannon and Heather Butler.

Congrats to Tonya Beasley for getting the Wendy Day scholarship with 911 Authority and WIN Committee.

This year’s initiative:

Reclassification of 9-1-1 professionals to protective service personnel via Senate Bill 725. This bill passed the Senate unanimously in September of 2025 and is currently being held at the desk in the house. We asked house members to pass this under the suspension of the rules.

Funding Next Generation 9-1-1. H.R. 6505 would create a nationwide NG9-1-1 grant program, currently does not have a pay for attached to it. S.3565 has some of the language from the house bill but is aiming to use some unused funding for NG9-1-1 purposes.

We were able to meet with both Senator Durbin and Duckworth’s offices. We also met with Rep LaHood in person, Rep Robin Kelly at our congressional breakfast and then also with one of her staffers. Other offices we were able to meet with were Rep Budzinski, Schakowsky, Underwood, and Foster. Overall, everyone was very supportive of passing S.725 through the house. Some commented they will inquire when it can be done. We learned that bills are put on this list to push through under the suspension of the rules weekly, so we were hopeful this could happen this congress. NG9-1-1 issues got mixed support, some staff didn’t fully understand it, they were left with leave behinds that will help to better explain what NG9-1-1 is and why it is needed.

We need people to reach out to their representatives. Invite them to your centers, go to https://nena.quorum.us/NENA-Action-Center/ and take action, if you have a contact for the local office send them the leave behind information attached.

We would love to have a larger group next year, save the dates February 21st to 24th, 2027!
